The Wonders of Newburyport

Newburyport – Plum Island – Merrimack River

This beautiful tour starts at the Newburyport MA commuter rail station and takes the Clipper City Rail Trail to historic High Street. We ride past beautiful Federal-era mansions to Maudslay State Park and the lovely Artichoke Reservoirs. (The longer option continues to West Newbury along quiet wooded roads, including several miles beside the Merrimack River.) We circle back to the Great Salt Marsh in Newbury, then ride along the Merrimack River to Plum Island and the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. At the close of this satisfying day of quiet scenic roads and nature, we cycle through the Colonial-era neighborhoods of Newburyport and stroll the boardwalk at Waterfront Park before taking the rail trail back to the start location. Throughout the day, your guides will share information about the area’s historic and natural highlights.
