As Ciclismo Classico staff member Lauren Lasky says: “”Cycling Gran Canaria is simply an enchanting experience. Where else in the world can you hop on your bike from under a grove of palm trees and spin along the edge of a volcanic crater in the middle of the sea?””
We’re excited to announce a special, festive Top Guide tour with Henrick Murphy and Massimo Marenco departing December 4, 2017.
Lauren adds: “”On this tour we explore an immense mystical garden of unique native cacti and birds, and ascend from the desert up into majestic pine forests of the National Park of Tamadbada. We will savor every moment of a 15-mile climb, simply because the scenery is so spectacular. You will be in awe of and fascinated by the dramatic landscapes, ever-changing micro-climates, and soaring views… and of course, we can’t forget the switchbacks that rival the (Italian) Stelvio pass. We climb the island summit by bike. Climbing the Pico de las Nieves—the Peak of Snows—makes you feel like you’re on top of the world!””
Top Guide Henrick Murphy shares these recollections from a recent trip to Gran Canaria.
“”I find myself climbing to the highest peak of Gran Canaria—Pico de la Nieves. Beautiful smooth roads, zero traffic…. just me and my Ciclismo Classico friends I met three days prior in Santa Brigida. As we climb, our views of the island underneath opens up into an infinite panorama of rugged natural beauty.
They told us to be prepared for the spectacular view of Il Tiede on the island of Tenerife on the horizon. Surrounded by my Ciclismo friends, we progressed steadily and merrily up the climb, encountering many two-wheeled warriors on the same pilgrimage as ourselves.
Hey, presto… we made it to the Pico! Wow! What a view! They were right!
The locals are very proud of their island, and rightly so. As we savoured the views of Roque Nublo, the Bentayga, and the surrounding hilltowns, I realized that we were on top of a 6,000-ft mountain in the middle of a beautiful island on the second of January in a pair of cycling shorts and short sleeves in the warm winter sun of Canaria. Cycling paradise!””
Henrick will be leading the December 4, 2017 Gran Canaria trip with his co-Ciclismo Classico Top Guide, Massimo Marenco.
“”I’m a biker. I’m a marine biologist. And, I’m a dreamer! That’s why I have in my mind the great idea of leading the Gran Canaria tour this December 2017—to celebrate my 40th birthday.
Ciclismo Classico offers the best riding in the sun when it’s cold at home. This trip is something unique and something that you cannot miss. Uphill in the shade, with beautiful roads and when you stop for a rest, the view is always something amazing. The warm temperatures (it’s never too hot) are always perfect for riding. This makes Gran Canaria the perfect place for winter training.
I actually studied marine biology because I simply love the sea, marine wlidlife, and the feeling that you have under the water or just relaxing, watching the water from the beach. Gran Canaria is obviously surrounded by the sea and this makes it the perfect place for me. As I said, I’m a dreamer and well, what is my next dream? To do something special with friends and past guests; to share magical moments and something special with people that want to have fun in their life. And that kind of person is you! Come celebrate my 40th birthday party in Gran Canaria. Please come ride with me and Henrick. This will surely be a spectacular trip!””
