Guest Stories: Tammy & Marty Washburn
Eighteen Years of Miles, Memories, and Ciclismo Magic
It was Marty who first floated the idea of venturing beyond our familiar routes to explore Europe on two wheels. After some research, we discovered Ciclismo Classico and eagerly booked our inaugural trip: Bike Across Italy. That journey would become the benchmark for all future adventures. The entire experience soared far beyond our expectations. The guides embodied warmth and professionalism, attending to every need—big or small—with a ready smile and an open heart. Whether it was a safety talk before the day’s ride, the careful selection of excellent bikes, inviting hotels, or the memorable meals that punctuated each day, every detail was thoughtfully considered.
Our time with Ciclismo Classico ignited a lasting love for European cycling adventures. Planning the next journey became second nature, and we never so much as glanced at another travel company. After all, our first experience had set a standard that was hard to imagine surpassing.
Of course, not every moment was smooth. On our most recent trip to Portugal, both of us unfortunately battled food poisoning. Yet even in this challenging moment, the Ciclismo guides outdid themselves. They arranged a late check-out without hesitation, booked a cab to our next hotel, and ensured we had an early check-in upon arrival. Their quick thinking, empathy, and dedication gave us tremendous comfort and relief, turning a potential ordeal into a demonstration of true hospitality.
Looking back, these cycling trips have woven together friendship, adventure, and unforgettable service. With each journey, our passion for travel and for Ciclismo Classico grows stronger. We look forward to many more miles, many more meals, and many more memories—confident that with Ciclismo, we are always in the best of hands.
We have gone on to complete five trips: Bike Across Italy, Bike Across France, Tuscany and the Island of Elba, Mediterranean Island Hopping, and Bike Across Portugal—and we will be going to La Bella Puglia in September 2026.
