How to Choose Your Next Cycling Tour with Ciclismo Classico

austria czech republic

Let’s say, you just finished a cycling tour with Ciclismo Classico in Tuscany. Maybe you finished our popular The Heart of Tuscany trip with Sandro Draghi. You had a great time. You tasted his olive oil, met his family and had a wonderful ride through the Tuscan hillside.

So what now? What next?

Ciclismo Classico has many cycling tours all over Europe. There are so many to choose from. Sometimes the choice can be difficult. You may find it hard to decide which one is right for you. So whether you’re on your first – or your one-hundred-and-first – trip, here are a few pointers to help you find the next cycling tour that’s right for you:

Ability Level

Every cyclist is new to the cycle touring at some point in their life. All the hills and talk of distances can be intimidating. Easing your way into the Ciclismo Classico family of tours is simple with either our Loire Valley or Venice Con Gusto tours. The Loire Valley explore the majesty of the French Kings and their castles with extraordinary food and flat countryside. Venice Con Gusto navigates the beautiful fields and leisurely banks of the Po River, dazzling you with UNESCO heritage towns of Ferrara, Mantova and – of course – Venice. Both cycling tours are only six days long and are the perfect way to get your feet wet.

Great First Trip

Let’s say, you’re an active cyclist. You probably have ridden in your local club or with friends a couple of times at home and you’d like something a little more challenging than simply flat terrain. Ciclismo Classico’s classic Tuscany & The Island of Elba is one of our signature trips. After 30 years, this sensorial experience through the Tuscan hilltowns will put a smile on your face and miles on your legs. Our Bella Puglia is a mystical ride through southern Italy. The enchanting white façade of Ostuni and the Trulli of Alberobello will help you understand why we love what we do.

C’est La France

Maybe you have traveled with us in Italy and you’re looking for a different destination. Ciclismo Classico has run cycling tours in France for almost 20 years. Our Divine Provence trip is like no other. Experience life in the bustling Provençal center of Avignon: ancient home to the Avignon Popes. It is full of surprises such as a private wine tasting at a Châteauneuf du Pape estate. Our Bike Across France departure takes you through some of the most untracked terrain in southwestern France. Drink delicious Malbec in Cahors and sleep in 12th century castles. It is the perfect introduction to La Vie Française!

Vámonos en España

Alessandro Allegro has personally designed and lead every cycling tour Ciclismo Classico operates in Spain. You are guaranteed the same attention to detail and personalized interactions with the locals that we give you in Italy. The Costa Brava is a leisurely ride along the beautiful Catalonian coastline. Gentle hills greet you in the afternoon and fabulous fish dinners with excellent Priorat complete each day. Andalucia – with its eclectic mix of European and North African culture – is eye-popping. The wines of Cordoba and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada will have you enchanted from day one. Our Bike Across Spain is a wonderful adventure stretching from the Catalonian coast all the way through Navarra, Aragona and into the Basque country. This nine-day adventure has all of the classic Ciclismo Classico ingredients: great rides, great wines, and great times!

Mystic Mountains

If you looking for the ultimate challenge, Ciclismo Classico has cycling tours for the die-hard hammer-head. These trips are for cyclists who put in lots of miles per week and are looking for long mountain climbs – and descents. For example, the Majestic Dolomites departure is an epic journey. Imagine conquering the giants of cycling history: Stelvio, Mendola and Sella Ronda. Every day is a thrilling ride through some of the most beautiful countryside. In the Pyrenees Sea to Sea, you have the opportunity to tackle some of the Pyrenees’ most challenging climbs: Col d’Aubisque, the Tourmalet, and the Col de Portillon. Of course, if you’re into Tour de France-style mountains don’t miss our Alps to the French Riviera. Only this departure gives you the chance to test your mettle on giants like the Col du Galibier, Col d’Izoard and the L’Alpe d’Huez. This is a trip that makes life-long memories.

Seaside & Shellfish

If long alpine ascents aren’t your thing, look to the sea! There is nothing more thrilling than biking the Mediterranean islands. The culture and cuisine of Italy’s islands are unparalleled. Couple that to the gorgeous scenery and beautiful sunny days in the saddle and you have paradise. La Bella Sicilia is an in-depth look at eastern Sicily and the Val di Noto. Known for its Baroque heritage, this side of Sicily will charm you with her beauty and hospitality. Savor Sardinia gives you the most exotic aspects of this unique destination. Bike through some of Europe’s most beautiful beaches in the Sinis peninsula and savor some of the most wonderful Vernaccia. Much of this island pre-dates the ancient Greeks and has been able to preserve its character all these years.

If you Keep “wine-ing” For More

Perhaps your attraction to Italy is more of a liquid-love; a food requisite. We have those too! Labels such as Brunello and Barolo abound throughout Tuscany and Piedmont. Our cycling tours through these regions give you the best wine and cuisine in the area. Barolo & Truffles is our tribute to Piedmont wines and cuisine. On our Bike Across Italy, you have the opportunity to drink fabulous Sagrantino and Rosso di Montefalco. The Heart of Tuscany pours copious quantities of Brunello, Morellino di Scansano and Chianti Classico into your glass.

Any way you look at our cycle tour offerings, there is something in it for you! Check out our food and wine tours, our other mountain tours, Spanish tours, and French tours. Just for starters.
