Greece Meteora and Zagori Hike Tour
Hike Remote Mountains and Monasteries.
Rugged mountains and dramatic scenery await you on this hiking tour in remote northern Greece. We begin in Athens, then transfer to amazing Meteora. Our early evening hike explores a surreal landscape of eroded limestone escarpments and pinnacles whose tops are surmounted by precariously perched monasteries. The next five days are spent in the remote Zagori region, amongst the Pindus mountains. Amidst wooded peaks and steep gorges, you’ll find small villages with stone houses and slate roofs that were built by wealthy merchants centuries ago. Abandoned after WWII they are just now coming back to life as the local Greeks return and restore their ancestral homes. An ancient network of trails links the stone villages. An unspoiled wilderness featuring spectacular canyons and crystal-clear rivers makes for spectacular hiking. Zagori is still relatively free of tourists but it won’t remain this way for much longer!
