A unique combination: cycle from Tyrolean farm villages to ancient Roman cities on bike paths meandering among the southern Alps – the hills are optional! Both leisure cyclists and those who love an occasional climb will enjoy this culturally and scenically diverse tour that glides (mostly downhill) through apple orchards and vineyards, affording stunning views of the Dolomites to the east and the Alps to the west.
Our journey begins in the charming village of Rabla, a tranquil gateway to the Val Venosta valley, surrounded by orchards and alpine farms where you’ll taste local specialties and meet warm-hearted hosts proud of their Tyrolean heritage. From there, we ride through idyllic valleys toward Bolzano, a lively crossroads of Italian and Austrian cultures. Here, colorful piazzas, arcaded streets, and the fascinating South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology—home of Ötzi, the 5,300-year-old iceman—offer a deep dive into the region’s ancient history and enduring traditions.
Continuing south, the terrain softens as we pedal through vineyards and along serene river trails toward Trento, once a major Roman settlement and now a vibrant university town surrounded by mountains. In Trento, Renaissance frescoes, elegant architecture, and riverside cafes set the stage for an evening of northern Italian warmth and hospitality.
Throughout the week, you’ll capture the best of the lush Alto Adige and Trentino regions: magnificent scenery, natural parks, delicious mountain cuisine, and fascinating encounters with locals. For a change of pace, enjoy a gentle hike through flower-filled meadows or simply relax at our carefully selected spa hotels. The tour concludes near Lake Garda, Italy’s largest and most dazzling lake—famous for its mild climate, dramatic cliffs, and inviting waters that make it the perfect grand finale to your Tyrolean adventure.
