Frank’s Review of Greece to Italy tour
Frank’s Review of Greece to Italy tour
It is not my intention in this review to attempt to describe the tour, because as most Ciclismo Classico tours, it is simply indescribable. Where would I start, with the unbelievably clear coastal sea water at the first day meeting point in Loutraki, or riding past the ruins of Ancient Corinth on day 2 or are the ruins at Mycenae (also on day 2) with her juicy story of the king Agamemnon, being so brutally slain by his wife’s lover more interesting. It’s all but forgotten when we arrive at Nafplio later in the day… and the story goes on.
There is a reason this tour is classified as “expert”. The Peloponosos region is basically an Island of mountains, really beautiful ones, all spotted with 3000 year old towns and villages. While cycling through these towns, often on fresh new pavement, it is not uncommon to climb 1500-2000m (5000-6000 ft) in a 100 km day. The views are so breathtaking they make you forget you are climbing anyway, but, if they don’t, the awesome descents surely will!
This tour all about the bike, it changes our time/space to a human pace allowing for interaction with locals, who stare at us in wonderment about where on Earth we come from, and how we could have possibly got there on bicycles. It also permits us access to a wonderland most foreigners never get to see. In an automobile, some of these roads are so physically nauseating, that very few cars pass us on many of the days.
If you have done our Bike Across Italy trip including the extra loops, without too much difficulty, or if you have done our Sea to Sea (now called Bike Across Italy 2), you will love this tour! Talemeh to Ellas, See you in Greece!
