Vintage Cycling and Delicious Wine in Tuscany
Every year, Ciclismo Classico joins the spectacular L’Eroica event on day 8 of our Tuscany & L’Eroica bike tour. The ride starts and ends in the historic piazza of Gaiole in Chianti, where you’ll ride with more than 7,000 other cyclists experiencing the thrill of L’Eroica.
The variety of routes offer a thrilling challenge, but you’ll be fueled by stunning views of the Chianti hills, the Chianti villages, famous wine towns—like Montalcino and the amazing Crete Senesi landscapes—and so much more! For non-event riders, the day offers a great opportunity to revel in the excitement of the Eroica Expo, stroll through Gaiole, wander around the lovely roads and stop at a quaint viewpoint to cheer on the stylish and vintage-clad riders.
More of these ciclo-storica (historical bike events) are popping up all over Tuscany. The former Tuscan pro-cyclist Danilo Saletti and his family have started a wonderful vintage bike ride called La Maremmana, which is a vintage-theme bike ride with a variety of routes available. This annual event—which happens in May—pays a sincere tribute to cycling, which was once the main mode of transportation. The bikes used in the event date back to the turn of the century all the way up to the mid-80s, and the style of the riders must match the year of the bike they ride. As you can likely imagine, this makes for an eye-catching and unique cycling event! And we adore how the women cyclists get all decked out in gorgeous dresses and even carry sun umbrellas while cycling.

Saletti also joins forces with the well known Chianti winemaker Francesco Mazzei (Fonterutoli Castle) for another fun event called Enoica Wine Trails, which offers both MTB and road cycling routes. We’ve all heard of the Eroica, but now there’s “Enoica” with more of a wine focus along famous, gorgeous wine routes in Tuscany. Check out any of our Tuscany departures and join one of these fun vintage rides before or after a Ciclismo Classico bike trip!
We organize enrollment, accommodations, bikes, and even vintage attire for riders so that they can participate in L’Eroica or any of these other ultra Tuscan events. Viva la bici!
