Pack What You Need for Your Upcoming Bicycle Tour
Pack What You Need for Your Upcoming Bicycle Tour

If it’s your first time taking a bicycle tour, you may not know what to pack and what to leave at home. Since a number of things are provided to you on Ciclismo Classico tours, we thought we’d take the opportunity to address some of the items we don’t provide that come in handy while touring by bike. As you already know by reviewing our site, you must have a bicycle helmet because you’re not permitted to tour without one.
Here are some of the things you’ll want to have with you on any length of bicycle tour:
- Two to five pairs of chamois-lined cycling shorts. This will be your official uniform for the duration of your tour. On shorter tours, two to three pairs of shorts are sufficient. For longer tours, you’ll want to bring at least five pairs so you always have something clean to wear while riding.
- Chamois cream to prevent chaffing. This is one of the must-haves that you don’t want to omit. Make sure to pack this item in your suitcase as airlines have restrictions on items like this if carried onto a plane. Consider the length of your tour and pack the number of tubes needed to get through your travels.
- Three to five brightly colored cycling jerseys for easy identification. We provide one as part of your tour package. Again, you’ll need fewer for short trips and additional jerseys for longer trips. Make sure that you set aside money for laundering and laundry products if you’re taking a longer tour.
- Cycling gloves to protect your hands from hours of riding. Choose a pair that fits well and feels comfortable. Test them out before traveling with these gloves. You don’t want to find out on the tour that they’re ill-fitting and impractical.
- A good pair of UV ray blocking sunglasses. Keep the sun out of your eyes so you’re able to enjoy a more comfortable ride. Make sure the shades you choose have high UV protection because of the amount of time you’re spending outdoors. It’s an essential item for cyclists.
- A waterproof jacket or raincoat. Weather is temperamental at times. It may be sunny one minute and raining the next. A raincoat or water-resistant jacket comes in handy every time you tour.
Packing is much easier to do when you know what you need to have on hand in order to have a comfortable and safe bicycle tour. Use the handy checklists we have provided on our website for whatever length of trip you’ve chosen to take. We offer recommendations for 6-8 day, 9-12 day, 13+ day, combo hike and bike, hiking, and photography tours.
