A short boat ride south of Cape Cod, but a world away, Martha’s Vineyard, New England’s largest island, offers the experience of a special place steeped in timeless tradition. The island is pristine in every way–its broad quiet beaches, rolling meadows, quaint villages, and farmland. There are a variety of treats for the eye and palette like the lively Oak Bluffs with its “gingerbread cottages” each one elaborately painted and its famous Flying Horse Carousel.
Pedaling down the streets of Edgartown we’ll stop to enjoy its Greek Revival whaling captain houses, Whaling Church and Vineyard museum. Up-island towns beat to a slower rhythm and extraordinary natural phenomena such as the dazzling mile-long polychrome cliffs and the iconic Gay Head lighthouse. Stopping for a snack at Alley’s General Store, to wander the Outdoor Sculpture Gallery or at the Polly Hill Arboretum will reveal why this magical island remains a coveted destination for presidents and movie stars as all as fisherman and artists. While our time here is short but we know you will long to return to this peaceful island oasis. Transportation. We ask that you meet us at each day’s ride starting point. All rides are supported by a Ciclismo Classico support vehicle.
Ferry: The Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority (WHMVNSA) runs scheduled ferry boat service from Woods Hole, MA. Woods Hole is a village of Falmouth, MA. You can arrange to take your car to the island, we suggest making these arrangements as soon as possible, as car reservations for the ferry sell out for the year quickly. Otherwise, park your car “on the mainland” and ferry over with your bike and luggage. The Steamship maintains parking lots, the most convenient lot is the Palmer Street Parking Lot in Falmouth. Shuttles run continuously to the ferry terminal.
Please note: The ferry does not go directly to Edgartown, it goes to Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs. Once you have arrived you will need to make arrangements to get to your lodging. We are happy to help with these arrangements as needed. Ferry Schedule Spring 2021.
