Craft Beers, Chocolate, and Waffles
The Outside Magazine award-winning Bike Across Belgium tour has it all and more. On this special tour, we were lucky to host the CEO and Founder of Surly Brewing Company, Omar Ansari and his closest wild, crazy and wonderful friends. They were a JOY to pedal with and were the perfect guests in every way!
Our very own Top Guide Isaaco “Deleeuwvanvlaanderen” Columbo not only knows the history behind every beer, but he speaks Flemish fluently and knows the back roads of Belgium better than any resident. His adopted Flemish middle name means The Lion of Flanders, but we just call him THE KING OF BELGIUM!
In Belgium, the beer culture is at a level of refinement, depth and complexity that easily rivals any renown wine region. I am fascinated to learn about all of the different beer recipes and techniques used to achieve such an array of flavors.
Bike Across Belgium
There are miles of bicycle paths that zig zag along romantic canals and wind their way between quaint towns, charming castles, outdoor cafés and incredible restaurants. This combination of bicycle infrastructure, gorgeous scenery, delicious food and varied culture help explain why cycling is the country’s national sport. For pedaling and beer aficionados, Belgium reigns second to none!
Craft Beer
There are 1,130+ beers brewed in Belgium. In addition to six Trappist ales and other abbey beers, it churns out lagers such as Stella Artois and Jupiler. Tipplers can also choose from an array of wheat beers, brown ales, red beers, golden ales, saison beers based on old farmhouse recipes, and any number of regional brews.
Chocolate
Does it get any better than Brugge? A charming medieval town filled with gourmet chocolate shops and world class beers to suit every taste bud?
Waffles
Forget power bars…we serve you Belgium Waffles!
… and Cobblestones!
They’re not for everyone, but wtih Isacco and Alessandro Allegro cheering us on, we gave them a try!
