From the frozen tundra of Nunavut to the heat of the Australian outback, from a father and son sharing their first overnight outing to women on multi-year adventures with no end date, there’s something for everyone at this year’s festival. You don’t need to be a cyclist to enjoy these tales of adventure! Ciclismo Classico, the longtime pioneer in creative bicycle vacations, is proud to present this one-of-a-kind event.  Additional financial support is provided by Gold Sponsor Wheelworks.

The tour is in Arlington, MA, on May 30th; in Salem and Northampton, MA, on June 7th; and in Danbury, CT, on June 8th. We’ve added a “Best-of-the-Fest” show in Arlington, MA, for May 31st, to share the audience favorites from the first 8 years.

This year’s Festival features the USA premiere of a stunning film from Australia called Lowest to Highest. Through the boundless landscape of Australia, five friends attempt to be the first to cycle from the continent’s lowest point, Kati Thanda – Lake Eyre, a vast salt lake in the desert at 15 meters below sea level, to the highest point, the snow-capped summit of Mount Kosciuszko. The 1,300+ mile journey would be hard enough for anyone, but Duncan is blind, Walter can’t breathe, Daniel can’t walk, Conrad can’t bend, and half of Paul’s body doesn’t work. What could possibly go wrong?

Festival Director Karin Turer says of the 27-minute film, “I think audiences will be inspired not only by the members of the group but by the wild vastness of the Australian continent – the film made me both laugh and cry.”

In addition to the 9 fantastic short films on tap, Arlington’s May 30th festival features the famous Cookie Showcase, an all-cookie buffet featuring the best bakeries of Arlington and beyond.  Each attendee will be entered into a drawing to win a trip to Italy with Ciclismo Classico, and there will also be chances to win a beautiful bike jersey as part of our Great Jersey Giveaway.  The “Best of the Fest” on May 31st begins with live music from Slow Boat Home and includes a giant birthday cake to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ciclismo Classico. The Northampton festival will have a VIP tasting event, with drink samples from Artisan Beverage Coop of Greenfield as well as a selection of fine cheese and beverages to pair them with from Provisions in Northampton.

The Festival is a production of Ciclismo Classico, a community-minded Arlington company that has been a leader in active bicycle vacations since 1988. Ciclismo Classico founder Lauren Hefferon says, “Since our start 30 years ago, we’ve always been very involved with the local community. From our annual holiday ‘Jingle Ride’ to the Bike Travel Film Festival, we welcome the opportunity to promote active lifestyles and get people dreaming about their next adventure.”  Through the proceeds from these events, Ciclismo Classico has donated thousands of dollars to a variety of bicycle and other local charities.

FESTIVAL MISSION STATEMENT

The Festival’s mission is to inspire attendees to explore by bicycle.  Whether across the globe or a few towns away, there’s nothing that recharges and expands horizons like bicycle travel.  The Festival will increase awareness and appreciation for bicycle travel by showcasing independent films that depict the adventure, humor, and growth inherent in human-powered journeys.
