Castellamare del Golfo Loop to Scopeto
Benvenuto and welcome to Sicily! Upon arrival to Palermo Airport, our complimentary shuttle takes you to our first official stop: Castellamare. Here, you can enjoy a lovely warm-up ride towards the Natural Marine Park of the Zingaro and Scopello, a former tuna fishing village now brimming with Mediterranean charm.
Castellamare del Golfo to Trapani
After a short morning ride through a remote inland valley, we stop in Segesta, one of the best preserved Greek colonies in “Magna Grecia.” The area has a magical, unique atmosphere due to its remote position, and boasts a temple and theater dating back to the third century B.C. After this one-of-a-kind stop, we continue along the gently rolling terrain until we end the day in Trapani.
Trapani Loop to Erice
Today we climb to Erice, the tiny medieval town overlooking Trapani. Stroll through the cobbled streets and ancient alleyways to see the 14th-century churches and castles, and take in the magnificent views of the Sicilian coast. Don’t forget to leave some time to savor the local, homemade gelato!
Trapani to Mazara del Vallo
Our ride today is along the “via del sale,” the salt way, in Marsala. On our right, like delicate patchwork, the salt fields show their different colors arranged like a chessboard. If time allows, we may take a boat ride to Mozia, the small island seat of a Phoenician city from 7 B.C. We stop in Marsala for lunch and later on in the afternoon, we ride through a sea of vineyards, different varieties used to produce the famous fortified wine.
Mazara del Vallo to Roccamena
Today, we explore a very important part of Sicily: the Belice. After an easy start pedaling among vineyards, we head into the olive tree-covered hills. This is the land that Arabs first colonized during their reign over the island, and almost all the villages and buildings we see date back to that era. We ride by the villages that have been destroyed by a massive earthquake in 1968 and have now been transformed into open-air works of art and memorials.
Roccamena to Palermo
Today we venture into the wild. Our final ride will reveal wide open valleys, sneaky ridges, and alpine pastures. Get a bird’s eye view of the gold bowl, the ancient orange grove that acts as a namesake for the region, before embarking on one last descent into Palermo. Spend the rest of your evening enjoying the best of what the island’s capital has to offer.
It’s time to say 'arrivederci' to the magic of the Mediterranean. After breakfast around 9 am, we provide a group shuttle to Palermo Airport to make your connections.
