We begin our trip in Salzburg, a city of vibrant culture and stunning architecture, which has stood for centuries. Traveling north, we venture into Prague, one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations, as it affords its visitors gourmet restaurants, trendy clubs, and bohemian cafes. And Prague’s amazing cityscape is watched over by an 1100 year-old castle! The views along the ride are unforgettable with majestic mountains and enchanting valleys stretching for miles. We meet at our hotel at 1pm, and, after a light lunch, enjoy a warm-up ride through the picturesque city of Salzburg. Besides being a spectacular city, Salzburg hosts one of the best cycling path networks in Europe.
This morning we leave Salzburg for the popular holiday spot of St. Gilgen. The myriad walking and cycling routes of this area make it especially friendly to active travelers. Highlights include visiting the beautiful Eisl family farm where they produce yogurt and cheese and also the huge Iko Bike World shop in Hallwang. The extra loop features a visit to the beautiful town of St. Wolfgang.
Ride over a beautiful mountain pass—surrounded by peaks and waterfalls—where gorgeous scenery awaits us. Today’s ride offers also a spectacular view of Lake Attersee, the largest lake in the Austrian Alps, bordered on the south by the cliff-like slopes of the Schafberg. Be sure to bring your bathing suit along and take a dip as we enter Gmunden! Not to be missed is also a visit to the Baroque Parish Church of Traunkirchen and its amazing wooden altar.
Today we enjoy a long bike ride along the Steyr River bike path and down the famous “Romantic Road,” an old trade route during the Middle Ages that still retains much of its medieval character. The road winds through forgotten sections of countryside, connecting picturesque villages to Austria’s breathtaking lakes region. It culminates in Steyr. In the evening we enjoy a walking tour of Steyr with a local guide wearing a traditional medieval costume.
A relaxing ride along the quiet Enns river, into the Kakalpen National Park and its entire chocolate-box splendor. The afternoon is free for exploration! You may choose to explore the historic sights around 1020-year old Steyr, including many architectural highlights and the highly regarded Labor Museum. Today we proceed towards the hilly area north of the Danube River on another unforgettable ride, crossing the river before arriving in the peaceful medieval village of Freistadt. Another highlight of the day is a visit to Freistadt with its well preserved walls, towers, gates and renovated burghers’ houses as well as a lovely parish church.
Today we ride most of the day along the Vltava river which flows into Prague. Discover the medieval town of Cesky Krumlov, one of the most charming Czech towns and the pride of the Southern Bohemia region. The Castle and Chateau of Cesky Krumlov is the second largest castle complex in the country and was rebuilt based on the royal Windsor Castle.
In the morning we bike to the beautiful town of Holašovice, a picturesque village from 13th century whose present appearance is considered a true pearl of the rustic Baroque style, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. During the afternoon, we’ll regroup and relax on a three-hour shuttle ride to another UNESCO World Heritage site: the enchanting Prague.
