Henry has lived in Maine since 1987. A graduate of Middlebury College, he gravitated to Maine following graduate school in his native Kentucky and living in Colorado where he taught history and also instructed mountaineering courses with the Colorado Outward Bound School.
Drawn to Maine by the accessibility of so many outdoor activities Henry has worked as Bowdoin College’s Head Nordic Ski Coach, in Product Design and Development at LL Bean and most recently at the Chewonki Foundation.
Besides bicycle travel inNew England and Canada Henry and his wife have bicycled across the United States in a journey they conducted in five segments over eight years, covering almost five thousand miles. Following his daughter Caroline’s completion of her first year of college in early May the two will head west by bike for four weeks. Henry Heyburn is a champion of bike travel and exploration and believes there is no better way to learn about a region and its history than while traveling by bicycle.
