An easy ride to become familiar with our Bianchi bikes and to prepare for the next days of cycling.
Bad Staffelstein is a Spa town with an ancient heritage, amazing position along the river and between sheer hills, interesting medieval and baroque architecture, and more than ten breweries.
Today’s ride will take you away from the river for a bit to discover the quiet farmland landscape of Franconia; a series of gentle climbs will bring us to the highest point in Neudorf, at mile 16. From there the ride is mostly a gentle descent all the way to Bamberg.
The ride today follows for a while the Main bike path, then bends west to reach the Franconian wine district. This area was made possible by a huge bend of the river creating the region referred to as “the Meinschleife”. This is area for wine in Franconia as the soil is perfect for growing grapes, asparagus, and fruits.
Today’s final destination is Würzburg, the UNESCO World heritage site and the cultural hub of Germany. It is also home to the Marienberg Fortress. The Castle started as a residence for the Bishops of Würzburg, and later as a fortress that saw repeated action in the wards of the late 18th and 19th centuries. Now it houses two museums.
Rothenburg ob der Taub
Today’s ride heads south along the so called “Romantic road”; the ride has many short climbs on lovely country roads crossing small forests and farmlands, here and there a tiny, tidy village will offer the chance for a moment of rest enjoying a refreshments.
Today we say our goodbyes!
